The Coffee Belt: Where Does Your Coffee Come From?

The flavour of your coffee beans is influenced by chemistry of soil, the weather, the amount of rainfall, sunshine and altitude. The coffee belt nations generally have the best climatic conditions for the cultivation of beans.

The history of coffee goes as far back as the 14th century where young plants were exported to Arabian Peninsula from Ethiopia and then to Indonesia by the end of the 17th century.

Coffee bean cultivation then spread to New World nations such as Costa Rica, Brazil, Jamaica, Honduras and others. By the 19th century the World’s coffee belt was established.

Coffee Bean Growing Belt

Coffee Regions

Coffee grows in a sunny belt around the world called the coffee bean growing belt.

It’s approximately 1000 miles big and runs from The Tropic of Cancer to The Tropic of Capricorn.

Through the years many have tried and failed to grow the bean outside of its warm and snuggly comfort zone and thankfully have failed, insuring that the best beans are grown and standards are kept high.
